How to Prepare Your Course Before Moving to Canvas
Was this helpful?
In some instances, when courses are migrated to Canvas, you might encounter these issues:
- Modules might be out of order and need to be rearranged
- Course elements that have the same names might appear duplicated
- Old calendar events from past years might show up in the Canvas Calendar and Course Summary on Syllabus page
- Files, folders, and content areas that were set to "hidden" in the original course might need to be published
Tips
- Each folder or section header needs a unique name: Rename each folder or section header so that each has a unique name that indicates the chronological order (for example: week 1, week 2).
- Each page/assignment/discussion/quiz needs a unique name: Make sure all course elements have a unique name that indicates the chronological order (for example: week 1, week 2).
- Delete old files and calendar events: Delete all files and calendar events that will not be used in the Canvas course.
- Make everything visible: Check to make sure all files, folders, content areas, and course elements are visible, not hidden
